model for secondary particle production in low energy hadronic interaction of photons
Follow up to #411 (closed).
PROPOSAL provides the cross section for hadronic interactions of photons with nuclei from MeV range up to the highest energies. At high energies secondary particle production in the hadronic interactions of photons is handled by the high energy hadronic interaction models (Epos, QGSjet, Sibyll). The high energy models provide particle production in the continuum regime but we are missing the resonance region. For nuclear targets there is also dissociation of nuclei to consider (in principle at least. maybe not important in air showers).
Options to investigate:
- use low energy hadronic model (URQMD) (pion as stand-in for photon?)
- for proton targets SOPHIA (Mücke et al., arXiv:astro-ph/9903478) could be used.
- RELDIS for nuclei (Pshenichnov, Phys.Part.Nucl. 42 (2011) 215-250)
- DPMjet (also a high energy hadronic model)
- FLUKA (?)
