Release-type tests fail for cascade_example

Before those commits the release tests worked. I have approved those changes listed here and must have overseen something, respectively: I did not run release-build tests ;-(

Max, you programmed that, maybe you can look at it and find out most quickly what exactly happened. I am pretty sure this is related to @201 now...
